A Taste of China

"Chinese Supper"

It has been a long time since I have had real Chinese food. I mean real Chinese food. To say that is a strange thing, actually to say Chinese food is a strange thing. I remember speaking with a student in Shantou, China last year and he found it interesting that we call it Chinese food... they just call it food.

Anyways, if there is such a thing as “Chinese food” I have not had real “Chinese food” in a good long while. What we serve in Canada is a kind of... fake... Chinese food. In China they do not serve Chicken Balls, or Ginger Beef... those are actually Western creations.

Oh yes, there was a point to this. After our failed attempt to seek out Grumps we returned back to Saint John. We had been invited to a friend’s house, where they could be cooking. Our friend’s are Chinese, which means they cook real “Chinese food,” or just food... depending how you look at it.

We were treated as honoured guests and had a feast with seafood chowder, and some kind of pork thing, and fresh dumplings, and some kind of vegetables which I’ll not describe any further. It reminded me of China.

It was certainly nice to have some real Chinese food again and to spend an evening with friends playing the Settlers of Catan. Oh man... that game is amazing...

Denny watches the videos... now he is in the videos...
